If you have a frequent demand for video conference, online meeting or online training, you may be familiar with WebEx and ARF (WebEx Advanced Recording File). The .arf format is recorded from WebEx Network based recording.
The biggest disadvantage of ARF file is that it can only be opened on WebEx player. If you want to play ARF on other media players, applications or devices, you have to convert ARF to MP4, WMV, MOV, etc. If you want to share ARF files to others, firstly you have to convert ARF to popular formats, too. In this post, I will show you how to convert ARF to WMV with WebEx player and how to convert ARF to other popular format such as MP4, MOV, MKV, FLV, etc. with Video Converter Ultimate.
Part 1: Convert ARF to WMV with WebEx Player
Before You Begin
Make sure the WebEx Network Recording Player for Advanced Recording Format (ARF) files is installed on your computer. If it is not installed, you can download it from the Download file window that appears when you download the recording file.
Step 1. Locate your recordings by going to My WebEx > My Files > My Recordings. Then, download the recording file to your local computer.
Note: The options for downloading recording files are available only if your administrator has turned on the administration option for downloading recording files.
Step 2. Double-click the recording file in your Windows File Manager window. The WebEx Network Recording Player automatically opens the file.
Step 3. While playing the meeting in the Network Recording Player, select File > Convert > WMV (Windows Media Format). The Convert to WMV dialog box appears. In the Save in box, specify the location to save the file.
Step 4. Under Content options, select the meeting component that you want to save. Under Schedule Conversion, indicate when you want the file to be converted.
Step 5. Click "OK" to start the conversion process.

Part 3: You Need to Know - What is an ARF File
What is ARF
ARF is a file format or file extension for a WebEx advanced recording file. WebEx is Cisco's Web Conferencing Program. ARF stands for Advanced Recording File. An ARF file contains data from a recorded online meeting, such as video data, an index and a list of attendees, among other details.
To play an ARF file, you must have the Network Recording Player, available as a free download from WebEx, installed on your computer. In addition to playing your downloaded ARF files, you can also use it to convert the recordings to the WMV, SWF or MP4 file formats, which makes it convenient to share them with others.
What's the Difference Between ARF and WRF
ARF and WRF files are both recordings used with Cisco's WebEx program. The data they contain is the same: audio and video recordings that can easily be converted into other formats. The difference between the two is in their origins. The ARF file extension is for recordings downloaded by the user. When a meeting is recorded directly by the user, the file is saved with a WRF file extension.
