Solutions to Fix VLC Media Player No Sound Problem

VideoLAN Media Player is a comprehensive media player that supports numbers of multimedia files, including DVDs, Audio CDs, VCDs, etc. It's also easy to edit videos easily and the program can be applied to different OS, like Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. VLC's functional and stable features are favorite by many users. However, some people might come across an annoying issue when playing videos with VLC media player, that the VLC player play no sound suddenly. Reasons for VLC No Sound

1. VLC Speaker was Disabled

You may disable system speaker accidently, or unwarily mute VLC volume. Launch VLC, click "Tool" at the top menu bar > select "Preference" at the end of the pull-down list> "Audio" > "Enable Audio".

2. Outdated VLC Version

How long have your VLC media player not been upgraded? This may trigger incompatible playback problems, such as no output audio.

3. Wrong Output Module

Sometimes, may be the default output module not suit for your computer.

4. Incompatible Video Codec

For example, if a MP4 file contains a VLC incompatible video codec, you will fail to apply videos to VLC media player, or just no sound.

Solutions to Solve VLC No Sound Problem

1. Enable VLC Speaker

Open "Control Panel" > click "Hardware and Sound" > "Adjust system volume", you can see a list of audio devices, right-click device and select "Enable" to enable VLC media player.

Usually, the latest version will fix bugs and optimize program. So you are better update the VLC media player. Click "Help" rightmost > choose "Update". Or you can just uninstall it and download a latest version of VideoLAN.

3. Change VLC Sound Device

Go to "Audio" > switch "Audio Device". Here the audio device should be already set by default. According to the device you are using, you need to change it to "Speakers / Headphones". If you are using a Headphone, then select "Independent RTC Headphones".

4. Reset Audio Preference

Go to "Preference" page for advanced setting. For "Output" section, change "Output module", and click drop-down menu besides it, select "WaveOut Audio output". If VLC still has no sound, go the bottom of interface, try to "Reset Parameter".
